New wireless solution
« on: November 09, 2022, 11:09:14 AM »
Hi.

We've received our dates for the installation of the new wireless solution.  Just wondering if anyone has already had their school updated and general thoughts about the performance.
Was there any additional paperwork that you had to give them or was the site survey information enough?

Thanks.

There's a company called Select Services who are installing new wireless on behalf of BT.
The plan is to install a WAP in every classroom.

Hopefully this link will work for you. The video clip gives the most detail.

During the course of the installation, the team from Select Services will require access to classrooms.  Installation of a new wireless access point will take approximately 90 minutes and the installation team will require that no children are in a room for that period.  The team will work in one classroom at a time and will work with you to help minimise disruption.  It is suggested that schools plan in advance for the necessary access arrangements.

Had ours done at end of September. Big improvement over what we had with the Merus's as the number of access points has more than doubled.
Didnt have any additonal paperwork, but was handy to do a walkthrough with the engineer lead on the first morning.

Additional paperwork here.
You have to log a call to get a report on all the port configs on all switches and send this off to C2K.

Then go through the plan and where they are adding additonal WAP's on a switch you have to complete another document to get ports configured before hand.
All has to be done 2 weeks before they arrive.

This is going to be fun. Most of our classrooms have only two data points; one for the PC and one for the telephone (avoid VOIP like the plague).

I?ll be a option 2/3 outlined in the survey and then a new port / run will be added for it.  Have a few of them here

You should have received a pack in an email with a list detailing where the new Merakis will go along with a map of the school showing these colour coded as option 1, 2 or 3 along with any new cabling needed. These locations should have been agreed in your original survey. The map will also show the expected coverage

We were able to negotiate moving some of these slightly (various reasons like making cabling easier and being in the same general vicinity) but this needs EA approval.

Hi folks.

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but I promise it's still on topic.

We've received new dates for the wireless install that fall across the July holidays whenever the school will be closed, so we have a couple of questions for anyone who has already had the wireless installation.
Can you please tell us how many people they sent out?  Was it just a couple of people or a team?
They're scheduling 2 weeks, but were they finished early?

Many thanks.
