Job Evaluation
« on: August 02, 2023, 01:18:17 PM »
Hello

This is perhaps a very personal question to ask.  Has anyone engaged with the EA regarding a job evaluation?  What was your experience any tips and were you successful.  I've seen so many different job descriptions and pay rates for IT technicians/Managers in schools throughout N.Ireland i just cant understand why there are so many different technicians on different grades.  What has the highest paid IT Technician/Manager job description you've seen advertised in schools in N.Ireland?  I do recall a school in belfast advertise a Tech 5 IT Manager post.

I'm pretty fresh in the role and it's definitely something that's come up before in the school with predecessors. The role (for my place anyway) definitely needs revised. It's not so much a departmental technician as a whole school ICT support role; I work closer with the Bursar and Principal than the HoD.

It's a nice role and a nice place to work, but the role isn't what you're being paid for.

Highest I've seen was in Jan '23 in another school, 30,894 - 34,373 - I've saved it so if we ever have a review I can highlight that job spec against my own and then do a huge circle around the wage disparity. I'd have no worries if that was what I was getting paid  :o

Hi Jamie

You make a very valid point and i am sure it is the same for the majority of the IT Tech staff in schools.  The working relationship with the Principal and Bursar is far more functional that what it states in job descriptions and responsibilities.
I saw that post advertised in January but unfortunalty didnt have the foresight to save a copy for future reference.
I am using this site for reference, its from a english based council; https://schools.oxfordshire.gov.uk/cms/content/job-descriptions-support-staff  Not sure its the same scales as the EA uses.  If by any chance you couldn't post the content of the Job description via this as an attachment to the post?  Sorry for asking, maybe helpful foe myself and others.  I think its a disgrace that there are different levels of paid for the same posts in schools.

Couldn't upload as attachment so I've uploaded it to GDrive.

Looks to be from last September but they maybe readvertised or just hadn't removed the job description by the time I found it.

Enjoy!

That job specification has PAT testing across the whole school included as a duty.

I'd imagine that's where a large portion of the difference in salary lies. I PAT test across the whole school here. It wasn't included in my inital job spec but was offered to me and I get paid extra for it

You should request a job evaluation from school.   Contact your union for information.  If you are doing tasks not included in your orignal job description which are deemed of a higher scale then you have the right to seek a job evaluation and get paid fairly for completing such tasks.  https://www.eani.org.uk/ea-staff-hub/hr-online/line-managers-job-evaluations

I meant that  looking after the school heating system is also included in the other job description. I don’t do PAT testing either.
