Bought Meru's off ebay
« on: April 13, 2023, 12:52:28 PM »
Hi ,

We have bought Meru APs off ebay as they are near impossible to get through c2k. Does anyone have a solution to flash them with c2k firmware or do we have to contact the helpdesk for this? so many network deadspots in our school.

any ideas?

The recent email we got about the upgrade states that the old meru boxes will be redundant  and that VYTA can arrange to take them away. I don’t see the one you bought being added to your school

Hi Marty

I'm afraid the Ebay bought MERUs won't work (well , they will, but Capita detect them on the network and switch them off remotely - believe me, I've tried - they work perfectly, but Capita want to charge you £200 for an old one they pulled out of another school).

They even switched off the ports on the switch when I moved them (the Ebay bought ones) - and don't ask them to install ones from another source, as they state they are a security risk...

Everything with Capita seems to be a security risk! Anyone else think it's a money racket?

Like the EN159 laptops that we weren't allowed to keep using chrome flex on because of issues with bios security. How would it be any different from pupils with BYODs operating on school wifi?

Exactly - purely  a money racket.... they say the Dell 3010 desktops are a security risk and won't go past win 10 21H2, so dump them and buy new desktops from them at £600 a time....then, how did I install windows 10  22H2 on a 3010 with no issues whatsoever, with a £12 SSD  and a £7 wifi dongle from Amazon, making a machine plenty fast enough for basic internet, office etc? no more a security issue than a bring your own, connected to C2kWireless... but no big profit in doing that, for Crapita...though the ban by Stormont on all school capital expenditure for the next year will mean Crapita getting less business, so every cloud...!
