Stage sound/lighting
« on: November 21, 2022, 05:41:51 PM »
Anyone know of any companies that can supply and install new stage PA/lighting rig that are procurement approved?

Gearing up for a panto next year and our stage needs redone.

Also does anyone have any led lights in assemblyhalls/theatres or is everyone still using the old holagen style lights?

We are in the same boat.

Email equipment.procure@eani.org.uk asking for their supplier list. Its a confidential doc that they will ask you not to reshare.

Ive had 4 companies out quoting for a full rip out and reinstall of Projectors, lights and sound in our Hall.

Its crazy, i would say you could be touching 30k+ depending on your install.

3 projectors with motorised screens, a matrix unit and all new cabling is around 8-10K.

Sound and lighting is crazy money, I was looking at some DMX controlled movers. They range from ?200 up to over a 1K per light.

We were tempted to try the install ourselves, but there are too many factors to consider. (beam spread, lumens etc) if you wire the lights too close to the audio you'll get hum and other interference issues.

You also need to make sure your audio and video gear are on the same ground, or you will get ground loop that will cause noise/buzzing when everything is plugged in.

Going by previous productions in our school we would need a sound desk in the range of 3-5K, DMX patch in points in multiple locations around our Hall. As well as patch locations for a digital snake.

Our big issue is that our desk setup moves depending on the show and how many people the hall is setup for.

We got a quote for 2 x Projectors, cages and matrix switch in a hall here -  circa ?8k.  That was even without motorised screens, and power work to the ceiling positions.

Scary money.

the guy did say on the day we would be looking at a ball park of 25k for audio /lights   so I have gave principal bit of a heads up and worst case scenario if budget becomes and issue i will concentrate on the cabling and main hardware with the ability to add fixtures etc down the line.  we need it no matter what as we have no lighting at the min - Sound wise our current system could get us by for another year but have to relay more on hiring gear for a show when the time comes
