Memeber server
« on: November 09, 2022, 11:58:40 AM »
Our member server has just died. Capita have taken it to look at it for repair. Infineer use this for the canteen and tills. I  removed the drives before it was removed as infineer wanted the data. Anyone bought a new memebbre server recently? this old serveris a core 2 duo setup. I am thinking a new memeber server would be a better option in the long run.

Hi,

My memberserver has been giving bother lately.
I phoned our C2K contact for the board and explained that the memberservers are no longer under contract and support.  So as the EA wanted the cashless canteen, they purchased the server they needed to find a solution for support.  The school wasn't paying this out of our budget.

Been told that they are looking at getting the cashless system added to the new contract.  There was talk of a new memberserver being installed in schools.

Might not help at the moment but at least you know where you migth stand in the long term.

How will the canteen work with the server offline.??  We to are Infinner

Hi

make sure you are backing up the infineer data as it is vital in recovery of then server. I was bypassed in the canteen system being installed so never carried out any backups. Infinner asked that i keep the drives and not let capita take them. I have them in school as Infineer need the data. I dont know if the drives are working or not. Mayhem in the canteen on Monday morning. Canteen staff had to write everything on paper. Eventually, Infineer got me to get the tills set up fort offline use. All transactions are now stored on the tills as there is no internet connection. This is now working fine but no connection to Parent pay. When the system is up and running again then the tills will download the transactions and update Parent pay. We are now waiting on Capita to find out if they will get the server working again and what the charge will be.

i have a backup solution in place that's copying onto external harddrives using the windows server backup solution.  once a month try and recover a file from the drives to ensure everything is readable.

What your school is going through is what i want to avoid.  Head of canteen will shortly not be able to log onto the network to run her end of day soon as capita are removing the model of machine she has from the system.  I warned her and the EA about this in Sept but was getting no where with both.

I was excluded from the canteen and infineer install. I was never made aware that i should have done the backup. They bring me onboard when things go pear shape. Sure why would you get the IT guy involved in any IT plans. Non IT people in the school making IT decisions and then wonder why it does not work.
