Microsoft Surface Pro Sreen Share Issue
« on: March 09, 2022, 10:10:17 AM »
I can't seem to get the new managed Surface Pro to screen share to an Activpanel via c2k network.  I've tried the promethean screen share app, and I've tried the clevershare app method.  Both do not work when both activpanel and surface pro are connected to c2k, as one is on the managed wifi and the other is on the c2k wireless wifi. Also, adding the managed surface pro to c2k wireless wifi is blocked by c2k. Of course, a work around of both devices on a wifi hotspot works for screen sharing, but is not a useful solution.

Is that it, will it never work?  Or am I missing something?

There is hope in the use of a Microsoft Wireless Display adapter.  I tried this yesterday and it works. However, I did notice that the surface pro froze for a minute a couple of times when using the wirless display adapter.  I need to test this more, and with a different surface pro, in case it was just the one surface pro that has this problem. It does worry me though.

The Surface is supposed to be able to connect to the Apple TV but the same network issue with the iPad on the c2k wireless and the Surface on the managed wireless. I have ordered a port replicator to test the Surface. It looks like these devices were not going to be used in a classroom but for personal use. I can se the port replicators in the c2k catalogue. We used twenty laptops in various classrooms and all will need a replicator if a Surface replaces them.

This could be an issue for our clevershare app for the clevertouch touch panels. Yet another work around that needs to be found!

It does not look good.

I did some more testing today with a different version of the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter (Version 2 model) and the new C2k managed surface pros.  It kept freezing repeatedly, losing connection to the display and making the surface pro unusable for a few minutes at a time.
I tried different surface pros with different users; same results.  A non c2k unmanaged surface pro seems to work fine with no issues.

As far as I am aware it looks like there is no practical way to wirelessly share these with another display.

Can you try and disable fast startup and test again? I can see online  that this was a solution for a freezing Microsoft wireless adapter

Unfortunatly fast startup seems to be already disabled by default.

There was one interesting thing that did happen once when testing the screen sharing.  Once, instead of freezing, the surface pro shared its screen properly.  However, the touchscreen/pen would not work. Only the keyboard and touchpad worked.  I assume that instead of freezing, the touchscreen driver crashed?  Maybe that's where the conflict is?

Looks like they are also looking in to the wireless screen mirroring issues from the email update this afternoon

Hi All,

Was there any update on this?

From what I can gather from the EA surface pro webinars last week ... I think the only solution to wireless screen sharing for a majority* of schools will involve the use of devices (Microsoft wireless adapters I imagine) which the schools will need to invest in (buy themselves). All this is probably a consequence of the two different wireless networks that will never merge.

*why a majority? I was informed that this is maybe due to a small number of schools not using the managed network, and using thier own network instead with no wireless screen sharing issues.

I think the surface pro freezing when sharing (wireless or through the supplied hub) with Onenote or Microsoft whiteboard, is a driver problem that capita are working to resolve.

Has anyone registered for the surface Pro courses at end of august?
I applied for the Armagh one.
Have no word back whether I got in or not.
Anyone else got any reply to their application ?

I don't think there was conformation for the first three webinars. A teams link was sent out to all who signed up about a week before each webinar.

Has anyone had any updates or fixes on this?
We were using wireless adapters as we had purchased sp7s before the 7+s were delivered, they worked perfectly with the wireless display adapters. Now unfortunately they are continually freezing, so was just wondering if anyone had any workarounds/fixes?

How is the screenshare now ?

Just got first one in and all seems to be working well.  Just casting from a HP612 as it was on hand. YouTube + sound seems good.
