Windows 10 Start menu deployment
« on: March 20, 2019, 04:03:23 PM »
Been testing a windows 10 build in prep of both a new suite of computers being delivered and the dc5800's that have made the jump from c2k to our legacy network and I have been banging my head on the keyboard getting the start menu customised/locked down.

I have went down the route of customising the start menu (tile side) and exporting the xml layout then using GPO to push it out to users and restricting various things like the ability for users to change start menu and what not.
I'm currently having 2 main issues.

1. At the min the program list containing a mixture of all the programs installed on the machine plus the shortcuts from our redirected start menus currently in use on our win 7 builds and the placeholders for apps like xbox, office, onenote etc which is all a bit cluttered.
I have removed most either via right click uninstall, add remove programs and using powershell cmd  - Get-AppxPackage *package name* | Remove-AppxPackage

but when all is said and done on my test machine as soon as a user logs in and their profile is created for the first time all of the apps return to the program list - even if it is a placeholder. - not the biggest problem in the world as i have the app store blocked too but the likes of office hub keeps returning which launches the office installer for 2016.

2nd problem is the file explorer icon has disappeared from the taskbar quick launch and the start menu.

- no idea how to go about getting it back

any pointers? ideally i would like a mirror image of what c2k has on their start menus
