ICT Room layouts
« on: December 05, 2018, 02:58:41 PM »
what sort of layouts would most of your ict suites have?
I generally go for benching around the outsides.
I am currently planning a revamp in one of our suites that have the ground tracked for old desks in the middle of the room etc and its a nightmare, our HODs main request is that from his teachers desk he is able to see all students monitors.
so im planning for his teachers desk and av points etc at the back of the room and either have the floor tracked or dropdown pole so his back isnt to the class.

Why is he not designing his own room?

Anyway I take it the teachers desk back of room and active whiteboard at the front of room is what your considering. Just means you have to consider usb lead from computer to whiteboard, anyone know what is the max length usb a to b?

because if he was designing it he said why do we need cabling - make everything wifi lol

I will need to suss out the usb distance as its a pain with our promethean boards where we have used an active extension to go under floors - they always drop connection and need unplugged and re plugged all the time

USB max length a to b is 5 metres iirc tho I think that can be extended using USB hubs
also if you're designing\installing new layout you should be at least a T3

We use USB to ethernet to USB setup for a photocopier in one of our offices.

Seems to do the job.

cheer!  at the minute we only have a projector in the suite and the plan is not to upgrade it so I should be able to run a HDMI from the machine to the other side with no issues - I'll worry about the usb if and when they ever decide to add a touch panel
I got Teach 3 last year Bah after all these years!

HODs main request is that from his teachers desk he is able to see all students monitors.

We have https://veyon.io/ running on all the computers in our building, teachers can see the computers in their current room, I can see most rooms.

It's a lot easier to setup than moving machines.

It does, I've had it on for nearly 2 years without any issues.

Just run the installer, and deselect "Master" when installing on student computers.

Below is the code I use for 2 batch scripts to speed installs and updates up a bit (No Master is for student machines). You may need to edit them to include the location of the Veyon install file, and change filename if necessary. I can't attach .bat files so you will need to make them yourself.

VeyonInstall.bat
Code: [Select]
@echo off
"T:\veyon.exe" /S
veyonInstallNoMaster.bat
Code: [Select]
@echo off
"T:\veyon.exe" /S /NoMaster

When installed you can setup your rooms, and connect to them using the stationID HostAddress (1234567-MST001).

Two points.  On the client (student) machines I install with Master unticked.  What do I install on teacher workstations, and do I setup each room separately?

I went with https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001TOG6MM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Can do some rooms but not others. I was trying to go from usb to cat 5  socket to cab back to same room to a different cat 5 socket then into whiteboard.

Madly it actually worked in 2 rooms!!
