Apple Config 2 not supporting Apple TV 3
« on: November 08, 2017, 11:47:37 PM »
Hi,

Hoping to be pointed in the right direction.

Apple Config 2 v2.5 no longer seems to support Apple TV 3.  I need to install the C2K wifi profile but can no longer do it via Config 2.

Any advice please?

Thanks,
SM

Find a copy of the original apple configurator, I know it runs in El Capitan. You should be able to install it using that.

try http://www.academy-online.org.uk/Configurator.zip

Thank you for your reply Stephen.

I tried downloading the link but when opened it says:

"Apple Configurator" is damaged and can't be opened.  You should move it to the Trash.

I'm on a MacBook Pro 2014 model running macOS Sierra 10.12.6 , was thinking that it probably won't open as it is an app install via unknown source?  I went into security settings and only seems to let me now install from either App Store or App Store + identified developers?  Did there not always be unknown sources in there too?

Log a call with c2k.  Then give it a day or 2 and call complaints department and say you have informed the head that xyz is not working and they have requested that you log a complaint.  Just tell the head you are doing this.

I had to do this when apple config went up from ver 1 to ver 2

What happened then?  Did C2K call out to configure the Apple TV?

Ha no they didn't but it took a bit of time but they updated the how-to guides on the exchange and it worked from then.  It took weeks.

Thanks JMcB for your reply.

Will try that as well.  I?d be worried that there will be no solution.  Seems Apple have stopped supporting the Apple TV 3 with the newest version of Config 2.

Had thought myself the only solution would be to get an older version as long as it?s before v2.5

Haven?t had any luck searching the web for such download.

So...

I had a solution, by luck I was asked to wipe an older Mac by a classroom assistant so I was able to load the older version of Apple Config from Stephen in Post 2 before wiping it and loading it with the up to date MacOS.

This solved my problem over the past few weeks.

And now C2KWireless has just went live in the school today, now neither Apple TV in dept will link to the WIFI.

So I'm back to square one.

Other than trying to find another older Mac, has anyone any ideas as to get around the fact that Config2 doesn't support the Apple TV 3 anymore?

Is there a way to get a personal Macbook to allow the "install from unknown developer" option again?  Running up to date MacOS.

Thanks,
SM

here is a discussion about the issue and a download link to version 2.2 but I have not tried it myself.

Thank you for that info Zyber, greatly appreciated.  I had managed to solve the problem last night thankfully but I might try and download that v2.2 for future use.

My solution was that I found a Beta v2.3 online, I downloaded it but couldn't run it as macOS High Sierra doesn't allow the "install from unknown sources" anymore.

So to install from unknown sources, open Terminal and type the following command:

sudo spctl --master-disable

Terminal will ask you for your account password.

The info above I found in this link and it works... https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8087751

If you go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy you will now see that "Anywhere" is now selected for the Allow apps downloaded from section.

Now just go and run the Apple Config 2.3 Beta and it will allow you to install the new C2kWireless profile on the Apple TV 3.

When the profile install was just about to complete Stage 4, it did flag an error in Config 2, I just left it for a moment and then pressed the Stop button.  It still worked and installed the new profile on the Apple TV 3.

Hope this helps others in the future.
