HP4700, 4600/5550

Hi.

I have an HP4700 that you need 3D glasses to read what it was printing.  I swapped all the toners, fuser, and network card with another 4700 in a different room, but the problem remained.
I had a dig on the HP forums and someone mentioned that it might be the formatter board.  I ordered and fitted the new one, but no joy.  Someone then said that it could be laser/main drive misalignment.  So I took the printer to bits and worked my way through all the guides, and put it all back together again.
Now whenever I turn it on, it's says that the fuser is not reaching temperature.  Does anyone have any ideas or want to help me make it explode on the hockey pitches?  lol.

Also, I have a couple of 4600/5550 that don't like to have images printed.  If someone tries to print a photo, it will melt the printed page to the fuser and wrap round it.  Has anyone had this problem?

Have you tried a different Fuser in the 4600? 
I had an transparent sheet stuck to a fuser once

Sounds like you may have left a connection loose or something which heats up the fuser unit in the 4700 but I don't have any ideas as to what would be causing it sorry

According to Harvard Manufacturing, there is duff toner in some (though mostly not Harvard-supplied) recycled magenta cartridges. This duff toner changes the fuser characteristics more or less permanently such that full size pictures will likely jam in the fuser.

I had a teacher here once that i caught putting in ordinary injet photo paper in the HP4600 lucky i got to it but i still had to strip the fuser and get off the melted bits. i then had to tell them there is special photo paper for toner printers i got some ordered up but the quality of print was terrible.

The 4700 is going to take more time than I want to spend on it.  If anyone wants a repair project, please let me know and you can take it.

The issue with the 4600/5550 has been longstanding.  We've tried good quality compats and bought new fusers etc, but it's a persistant problem.  I'm not sure we could stretch to buying new fusers every time a duff magenta changed the settings, so we'll just have to make the best of the situation.  Looks like the notices "Do Not Print Full Page Images" will stay stuck to the front of the printer for another year, lol.

Try to adjust the X & Y image shift slightly on your HP4600/5550.  I had the same issue here & adjusted the X & Y shift very slightly (it adjusts the margins) & it's really helped.... not getting as many fuser jams now.
