I recently went to a mac trolley and every macbook Pro in it had a flat battery and would not recharge. (They are the ones you cannot take the battery out of).
Anyway after searching the web I came across the solution of resetting the System Management Controller (SMC).
Acording to every web page I could find on the subject this is done by :-
1. Put the computer into sleep then wake it.
2. Restart the machine then
3. Shutdown the machine and restart it.
This did not work. So I tried resetting the PRAM and all the usual stuff - no luck.
Phoned apple support and was told to reset the SMC in a different way
1. Turn the machine off but keep the power supply plugged in and on
2. Hold down the keys Shift+Ctrl+ALt+ Power button for 5 secs (I did it for about 7)
3. Release and wait 10 secs then power up.
This worked - I would just love to know why did it not say this on any web page I visited.
In case you are wondering the Macbook Pro's are model 7.1 and running Snow Leopard.about 2 years old next January.
