Shutdown Computer suites & clusters every evening.  Classrooms & offices can look after themselves cos half time the users (teachers that is) don't log off and the shutdown command won't work

Edit:

We're supposed to schedule a staggered restart of all machines every Friday morning cos N'gate say that's when they put out major updates etc.

All off as soon as the bell goes unless someone is logged on, retry turning off every couple of hours.  Off at weekends, staggered start from 6 in the morning weekdays.

Shouldn't it be 'best practice?' Our resident English nazi seems to be slipping up. :)

I have main site (and all lower branch machines) set to turn off at about 4 oclock if no one is logged in. I leave everything on at the mains as how are you meant to do your scheduled friday staggered startup for updates (starting about 5 - 6 oclock here) if the machines are not on at the mains.
One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.

Shutdown at the end of the day.... and then a further retry at about 10pm-ish.
Restart @ 7:30am so that all updates are installed and we're ready to rock when 1st bell goes.

Weekends off.  Any numpty who wants to come in over the weekend can take care of themselves!  lol
