Attendance
« on: May 19, 2009, 02:20:30 PM »
Just wanted to ask and see if anyone knew how i could go about doing this.

Within SIMS it is possible for staff to take a register during the morning, through SIMS this looks like it is setup for reg groups which is fine for a couple of days but we have two days here which are first period would not be registration but actual teaching class.

I am wondering how could we change this in SIMS to allow on three days it take register for reg class and then on the other two take a register during a normal teaching class if it is even possible, I know there are ways around this with going into attendance 6 but there are a lot of steps that teachers would not be bothered doing so making these changes in SIMS would be much easier and faster.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The teacher, who has that class first period, has his timetable showing as a timeline on his sims homepage.  If he double clicks on the period in that timeline, the attendance page will show.  The teacher should then be able to take the register.

thank you for your reply was playing about there as well that if you go through FOCUS and then ATTENDANCE and instead of using take marks or take register you click on EDIT MARKS this allows you to select a class list.

But i will say about there timetable in SIMS for changing marks that would be even easier.

Find a nice teacher and ask them to try it.  They don't need to take the attendance, just test double clicking on a class in the timeline.

I just asked one of the IT teachers to log in and look at it for this morning and it worked just fine, but again that depends as long as there timetable shows up in SIMS with no problems. But that is great answer makes things alot easier. So the only difference would be to use the mark register for their registration class as this is not part of there timetable

What happens if the Form teacher (who takes the registration) is off & there's a sub in.

How is the reg done then ?

not sure what we would do that probably take a role in class and then send that down to the office for it to be entered manually cant give a sub access to SIMS so not sure.

If there's a sub in from outside school, then they take a paper reg.  If the sub is from within school, they can still access the registration class for attendance in Sims.

Using the FOCUS and then ATTENDANCE and EDIT MARKS the teacher could edit other class marks, Blonde do you still use OMR sheets at your school or is it all done through SIMS?

If you use the take register icon, and use the search facility to find the class it should work.  But the class has, I think, to be listed as a reg class.  Sorry, not sure if that made sense!!!!  I've attached the help sheet we use at the moment. We will be taking registration electronically from next month, although I've got most of the form teachers using the system already.  We'll probably still print out omr sheets for those inevitable days when........... computers don't work, sims won't work, etc etc etc
