Network printing from local side
« on: March 14, 2006, 03:20:37 PM »
hey,

anyone any suggestions on how to do this so that i can prompt for a username and password before every individual printing job?

i have set up a cluster of machines with software installed on the local side, there will be a few hundred children over the next number of weeks using these to do coursework with each child printing off 5 pages each.  Simply installing a network printer for the PUPIL account is not going to work as the teacher wants each child to pay for their own printing.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

I once wrote a script for Word on our Legacy system. There was a colour printer on the system that RM Auditor couldn't count. Basically the script read the username of the person printing, the number of pages and the date/time and dumped it all to a text file.

Unfortunately I don't think it will work on the local side but I'll take a look.
