Network performance
« on: September 07, 2020, 12:09:47 PM »
Anyone else noticed that the network is quite poor these days? The installation of the new switches seems to have had no real benefit as far as the network is concerned.

I had got reports of internet speed related issues last week.

Nothing consistent that I could report on.

Our c2k and legacy are both being hammered at the minute.

We are averaging about 2-3TB's a week on our 100/100 legacy fibre line, we just put an order in for a 1GB line.

It should be installed October/November.

Internally everything seems to be working fine, problems occurring with external access.
Logged a call with help-desk. Initially guy looked and said we were only using half our bandwidth and there shouldn't be a problem until i got him to remote onto my workstation.
Once he saw that basic web-pages take 30+ seconds to load call is getting escalated.

Share some bandwidth with us ? 👀 We're still on 10meg still until the upgrade kicks in

You can have it, but at the minute I'm getting a better connection over 4G

Funy thing is that upload speeds will max out when this is happening so it seems like traffic shaping being done by capita. So either the main proxy server sucks or they just dont have enough bandwidth across the c2k network for data in 2020.

My last speed test was 570kbs download and 85 Mbps upload, quite the difference.

I have 10 open calls with Carpita.   All performance related.  Internet and network have been useless the past couple of weeks.

Get Huawei switches they said...
The network will be faster they said...    :-\

Just get the standard "All schools are affected" response.  Nothing to say when things will be back to normal.
