What are your rights when using school equipment?
« on: March 09, 2015, 10:57:27 AM »
I was reading http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2973215/British-Airways-denies-paying-1million-compensation-staff-claims-spied-email-phone-messages-union-dispute.html
about BA and wether or not they were monitoring staff using BA's phones and mobile devices. It begs the question How much are we legally allowed to be monitored in school when using school equipment. There is an argument on it is school equipment so they can monitor it as much as they like, but at the same time if your on a break and decide to pay off your credit card what can or cannot be recorded. There is a problem in todays work area where peeps are abusing their computers in the workplace by watching Youtube, Netflix or using Facebook/ Twitter instead of working. As such how does the employer make sure they arent paying someone who is just sitting watching Netflix all day rather than working - I do know of a case where this was happening and was discovered when a new IT guy in the firm checked over the internet history, needless to say the guy watching Netflix got the order of the boot.
I dont know what the legal limits are here but I thought I would throw the subject up for discussion. So it is open to all I have started it in the general discussion area for all to comment.
One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.

Pay the technicians who know what they are doing and do a fine job above and beyond a decent wage and get rid of the technicians that are bluffing their way. Plenty get jobs not on their qualifications or merit but on  who or what they know. Schools are being robbed of good IT technicians.

Takes years of practice to be a good bluffer.  I studied my school's caretaker for years to get to where I am now..

But, to get back on topic, remember that security software they were meant to put on the PCs that logged everything and captured your screen if there was too much of a flesh to cloth ratio in any pics displayed or bad language? Whatever happened to that?
