I have just read the document and i assume C2k are having a laugh. Most of my laptops are not working and it looks like you need to use a c2k laptop to use sims at home. We are given instructions to use an application on a non supported device. Instructions on editing ini files and making changes to proxy settings are directed at the user who will be a Teacher. Who supports the Teacher at home? Personally i think C2k are having a laugh.

I just had a thought, if this works with a legacy network why use a c2k one? There is no snak (or whatever) at the min so just need to get SIMS onto a non c2k laptop - there is instructions on that somewhere - if only I had the time!!1

Browse to s:\sims\setups

Copy SIMSApplicationSetup.exe and SIMSInfrastructreSetup.exe to a pen drive

Get a copy of your sims.ini and connect.ini

Run through the setup in doc en088 on your legacy computer.

I installed SIMSInfrastructreSetup.exe first then SIMSApplicationSetup.exe

once sims has been installed i copied sim.ini to the c:\windows folder and connect.ini to the sim.net folder.

You need to make sure .net 4 or higher is installed on your workstation.

I should say, before you run sims you need to go to https://remote.c2kschools.net and click start to establish the vpn connect or the sim connection wont work.


This has to be done first before you run sims.

I take it you accessed this from home or at least not thru any c2k proxy. I tried this from the legacy network and couldnt access https://remote.c2kschools.net
 
I might bring the stuff home and try installing onto my home machine - which is a bit mad as I dont need to use sims at home!!!

I will try it from home - on my computer just to see!
 
The problem with this is that if your version of the sims prog goes out of date you could seriously muck up your sims database.

Im trying to get talking to someone from captia about this, i would hope that the updates wouldnt cause any major problems. ill have to check if the simsload.exe works as this is how sims checks for new updates.

I already have sims installed on our member server, close to 6 months now and we havent had any major issues.

With this being in a general area & potentially viewed by any unregistered mole I bet it will be blocked before long though :(

I couldnt get the vpn to work from my win 7 machine at home. I tried it with Firefox and Chrome.
