Pay review. Job role change
« on: September 01, 2014, 01:06:28 PM »
Hi it's been a while since I was last here.

As some off you know I have been trying to get a pay review for the last 5 years with no joy.  I have been in the school 10 years now

I was just wondering if many of you have had a pay review/increase in your employment.

Has your role changed much from you first took the post. E.G. Phones,CCTV,cashless tills, heating, macs,iPads, digital signage, anything that plugs in.

The latest review I got I was told that I am getting the same as anyone else in a similar role.

I am not asking what you are all getting paid but I am on T2 point 17. If anyone wants more info please ask.

Ive been here for 6 years still on T1 and workload getting bigger all the time, bloody fed up with the difference in pay in voluntary grammer and fully run education grammer. Kept being told here there is no money and more cuts on the way. Can't even get the 1% rise agreed by the union and the education board because the bloody department of finance wont release the money. We dont even get the extra 3 days holidays that other schools get after 5 years service talk about discrimination.

Cashless tills, is that school meals?? Sorry that is a completely different thing to working in a school, absolutely not within your job parameters.

Yeah it is the school meals system. I also look after part of the heating system, the CCTV,  the phones plus anything that they can't get someone Else to do.

Heating system is definately caretaking staff. Cashless is school meals. Phones is whoever installed it and CCTV is who knows but not you.

These are all extra areas of responsibility - I would go to the headmaster and request an upgrade to the new scale citing your current job description plus these extra duties. If he/she says no then drop the extra as they are not a reasonable request one is the responsibility of other staff members and the other does not even come under control of the school, nevermind phones and CCTV.

i agree with Stephen, if your looking after these surely it must be someone else's duty and if it is they are getting paid for it while you do it.

I work with the Gentleman and have told him this. Its time to either step up and get paid for the great work that he does around the College or step down and only do what he is suppose to be paid for.

Just be careful, I know from another situation in a factory that I worked in many years ago were someone was doing something that wasn't in their contract. They had been doing it for quite a number of years before it was pointed out that it wasn't in their contract. When they stopped doing it they were pulled about it, threatened with dismissal, union and solicitors brought in and in the end it was deemed that because he had been doing it for so long it had become 'common working practice'. Therefore he had to continue doing it.

If you look at the original T1/2/3 job descriptions which were agreed after evaluation, there is a phrase that says something like, "this is a Tx's job description and is non-negotiable".
If you're getting paid a Tx's grade then a Tx's job is what you should be doing.  No more, no less and no "well we'll swap that bit for something else" or "that bit's not needed any more so go sweep the floors instead"
