I suppose anyone reading this thread will think we're IT dinosaurs, afraid of change and the future. I think if we had no exposure to what life has been like with a managed service through C2k we would probably welcome these changes with open arms, always wary, but willing to give it a chance. I think with us it's a case of 'once bitten, twice shy'. But we've seen what a managed service is like, it's advantages and disadvantages, and will always be sceptical of it.

A lot of this makes sense - I can see why SIMS would be better as a cloud based service, as well as Office-type applications.

But there is no way the schools can go entirely thin client - I can't see Sibelius, or Solidworks etc working across a WAN line - not to mention Moving Image Arts.

We had guys out last year surveying for the optic fibre link, and they said it would be a year-long project to get all the schools cabled, so our SIMS servers and backup units will stay until then.

The biggest problem will be the total reliance on the fibre link to the data centre, and also the capability of the filtering system. If we think it hasn't been reliable with a 2MB link, how is it going to manage with 100MB?

If anything, our job will be busier because there will be more devices linked into the system.

Have any of you tried signing up to that cloud system at

https://www.northgate-academy.com/RegForm/UI/RegistrationForm.aspx

I know it's only supposed to be a free trial but doesn't seem to be working too well for me   ???

Anyone tried it on a non-C2K machine?

So it IS going to be pay-per-user....so they get 300 million to set this up and fleece the schools for using the thing?

Good business I suppose...

Why do it this way - why not stick everyone thru google??
One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.

Probably at the last minute as usual - we're always the last to find out!

Probably about the time the lorry arrives with any new kit.

If its Cloud based anything should work as they say in their blurb "personal devices such as smart phones, IPads, tablet PCs and laptops"  ;D

However as we all know what is promised and what you get can be different  ???

its Cloud based. We won't need any new kit.  Just the big 200Mb BB (notice they word that 'up to 200Mb/s'  - very few schools will actually get this I am sure).
