A lot of this makes sense - I can see why SIMS would be better as a cloud based service, as well as Office-type applications.
But there is no way the schools can go entirely thin client - I can't see Sibelius, or Solidworks etc working across a WAN line - not to mention Moving Image Arts.
We had guys out last year surveying for the optic fibre link, and they said it would be a year-long project to get all the schools cabled, so our SIMS servers and backup units will stay until then.
The biggest problem will be the total reliance on the fibre link to the data centre, and also the capability of the filtering system. If we think it hasn't been reliable with a 2MB link, how is it going to manage with 100MB?
If anything, our job will be busier because there will be more devices linked into the system.
