what sorta budget are you operating on ?



I'm lucky if I can persuade em to buy me a box of floppies !



We get memory pens from Datapac too but I take orders from staff and pupils every now and then, collect the money and then order them.

We worked out what the demand would be, ordered them and then sold them to anyone that wanted one. So far the uptake hasn't been bad :)

I ordered 100 and gave them out to any staff that wanted one.  If any teachers wanted more than one, they had to pay for it.  Nearly every department has been provided this way. ( I've stopped worrying about the budget - I just treat it like my overdraft - if you ignore it then it doesn't really exist.)



The boys have bought the rest of the pens but they all checked the price at the time and were happy with the cost.  They have more money than the rest of us and think nothing of buying a second or third because they have 'lost' theirs. 8)

Misco does Lexar 256 £12.30 delivery charge around £8 but you can negotiate del sometimes

You can get a 256Mb memory stick from play.com for 13.99 delivered, but we generally use datapac too but only the odd small order.



Talkin of memory sticks, I have 1 here sayin it's not formatted and there's a lot of data on it that the teacher hasn't backed up, any way to get it off? I've tried a data recovery tool but it doesn't like it at all...  :(

Try going into the properties of the usb and select tools.  Check the disk and defrag if needed.  This sometimes works.  Also, some come with their own software and occasionally lock the disk.  Not sure how to unlock it - sorry. :wink:

When I try to check it for errors it just closes the window when I hit start and it says it can't defrag this type of disk  :(



He's gonna check for software it came with tonight but doesn't think he has any... and doesn't know what make or model it is...

I know this is slightly different to your problem but I have used this in the past to get past problems with USB Drives:

When you attach a USB key drive to your computer you may get an error message "USB device not recognised" this is a simple solution to the problem:



 



Close everything down.



Remove all USB peripherals.



Remove the power leads.



Leave the computer for about 30 minutes



Plug back in after 30 minutes and start the computer



Attach USB devices one by one.



XP has been forced to restore all its drivers.

There is an excellant website where we buy 512mb for under £18.  but you pay £3 for postage i think.  if you buy in bulk you are charged for postage once i think well we have been so far.



No problems with any of the memory sticks yet and we been buying them for three years now.  You can download the drivers for 98 machines from the same place.



we sell them at the same price to the students and teachers.



you can buy memory for camera, MP3 player. et

Play.com are great value, i believe they're even stocking 4GB USB pens the size of your thumb, compared to the fist sized mini-HDD ones of last year  :)

They phoned me the other day with prices (excluding VAT)



256MB £9.31

512MB £14.74

1GB £25.21



...but we're a voluntary grammar so they seem to charge us differently (less in otherwards).



These are the best rpices I have seen yet.



I bought a batch from Misco, black ones, and had quite a few faulty.
