banned word - proxy
« on: March 27, 2006, 11:35:07 AM »
Just recently, I was trying to search for information about ISA proxies, but I found to my horror, that everytime I used the word 'proxy' in a search I got the dreaded blocked message - categorised as Proxy Avoidance.....

Is is just me or is this right across the C2K networks?

Proxy is probably banned as cgi proxy is a way of surfing the net and bypassing the dreaded filtering.

and just think, if we continued to discuss this particular topic, and c2k do read this forum, they would have grounds to ban this site. I suspect a private "technicians only" area is required. Trouble is, identifying genuine technicians would be the problem.

Yep, true enough.  I don't know if we should feel flattered or annoyed.  I mean, this site started out as a site for technicians using the C2K networks with no C2K involvement, but clearly there is C2K involvement if they read the forums and act on the information they find in here!

I would go for a more restrictive forum that will at least make you register to read the forums.  That way, there is some way of keeping an eye on who is reading our rants.

This 'Big Brother' policy that C2K employ is more than a little annoying don't you think?

I agree Si. I think C2k should start treating the adults on their network like adults. Fair enough, restrict the little monsters as much as they like, but allow us techies the freedom to surf that we require to do our jobs properly. Besides there are comparatively few adult users on their network, so it shouldnt be a big overhead for them to allow us wider access.

I understand that C2k's (Hewlett packard) internet provision isn't actually "live" internet at all, just a few terrabytes of cached web pages, but it wouldnt be very technically difficult to allow us onto a special proxy that would bypass this.

Well, if there is a will there is a way I guess....it just makes you work smarter to get the information you require.
