mouse security tip

Any mouse on a computer that is not against a wall is open to pesky kids - sorry I mean valued customers - removing it and reinserting. This may cause the computer to ignore the mouse on next boot up if it isn't in properly, or the pins may be bent by the kids, or WORSE, break off when you try and bend them back.



{ Tip within a Tip (TM) get a keyboard extender cable: after you have tried bending the pin back, test the connection with the extender first. It's easier to manoeuvre two small connectors into each other if you can hold them both near a window or under a good light, rather than having to bend down to a station. Plus if the pin breaks off in the extender its easy to bin the extender, rather than get a motherboard swapout }



If have any old serial mice put them on these stations, as the thumbscrews deter the kids.

what precautiosn does every one else take?



i superglue the ring holding the ball in so that they dont get s tole and in some rooms cable tie the mouse cable to another cable at the back.

we have also glued the cover but can be a problem when cleaning the mice.  Also have cable tied them to the keyboards.  



Lately we have replaced standard mice with optical mice.

I don't like sealing the bottom due to cleaning, instead I deter by destroying anyone I find stealing them

to clean them once they have been glues. unscrew the bottom and the top lifts off giving you even better acces to the rollers...



i have started migrating to opticles but have already had a problem with the meddling kids covering the optic with ink from a pen or marker resulting in it not working  :twisted:  ya just cant win

We have suddenly become the victims of mouse castrators!!!!  Replaced 20 mouseballs within the last two weeks.  Don't fancy having to go down the superglue route, but looks like I might have to.  Unless, of course, I can catch the little brats first! :twisted:

Angela, it's been said more than once that I have balls - but that's the first time I've seen it in the written word!  Best laugh I've had all day -  we get ours from Hills Components.  Last batch was £9.00 for 15.

Remove the mice and force the kids to use Mouse Keys... they'll soon learn

I use the mouse keys all the time just to confuse them and it really works!  The staff always ask ' how'd you do that?', but when I show them they sort of glaze over - too complicated.
