Looking for graphics card
« on: February 04, 2008, 01:25:52 PM »
Guy, I know over the years many of us have canabalised machines for spare parts. Probably a long shot here but its worth a try.I'm just wondering if anyone out there would have a PCI graphics card which would be equivilent to an Nvidia Geforce 6600 or ATI Radeon 9800pro or better lying about that they arent using anymore?? if you do let me know and we can come to some finanical arrangement. Cheers.

I think ebay would be your best shot for one but I will check I might have one lying about but I am not sure.

try http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nvidia-GeForce-6600-256MB-PCI-Express-Video-Card_W0QQitemZ110221080489QQihZ001QQcategoryZ3762QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I will check but I wont be online until tomorrow night. Open Night tonight and I am away to Tech Series Server Infrastructure & System Imaging (Mac servers) tomorrow.

I just searched ebay for nvidia 6600 and there are some there (PCI express and AGP). If I have one it could be AGP as that was what the old motherboard I had could take.

Id already looked at this Stephen, but unfortunatly the motherboard doesn't have either a PCIe or AGP slot. Its a Dell Dimension 3100 which only has 2 PCI slots. Worst thing is its not even for me. One of the caretakers here wants it so his kid can play call of duty 4 8) ah well..  told him not to get his hopes up.

As far as I remember the 6600 was only made as a PCIe or an AGP. How old is the machine if it doesnt have AGP??

I wouldnt have a card to fit it, sorry.

The machine is at oldest 2 years  ???  hard to believe that it didnt have and AGP slot at the least. Not to worry and thanks for having a look Stephen, I appreciate it greatly. Told him that we'll have to look into upgrading the motherboard, all this hassle for 1 game...better be worth it.
