Server 2003
« on: June 01, 2007, 12:48:33 PM »
We have updated our legacy few months back to server 2003.

Would like to know if anybody has some useful links to information or free software on maintaining the system. useful scripts etc.  Have setup the printing credits system.  got a great piece of software called Pcounter.

have blocked students from most things by using Group Policy.

Would like to enable teachers to reset password from any machine that they are logged on to.

Also a shutdown script would be great.  so all workstations will shutdown at a certain time.

any help would be great.

Loud, how did you find using group policy. We have just taken delivery of a new Win2K3 server here and I will be starting the config of it soon. Not got a lot of experience with 2003 server so any pointers would be great.

Sorry to hijack your thread.

Group policy's at the start were a bit tough.  Just don't touch Domain policy's that much, as it will mostly affect all your users and the server.  just research on the internet.  Had to create two more group policy objects.  one for staff and one for students and edit both to suit your needs.  will hopefully do more with this over the summer. Like break GP for students into year.

Like yourself i just learn as i go along.

A handy tip is to use Organisational units for your Year Groups ie 2006 2005 2004 then you can add individual group policies to each year or have one policy overall.

i have that done in the active directory.  Just created a group policy call students and assigned all students to that policy.

Having problems with roaming profiles.  Have followed instructions on how to set this up.  But keep running into errors.  when user logs on message saying that profile could not be loaded loading local profile.  Thought it had something to do with the shared folder security rights but i not to sure now.
