Phone extension
« on: June 10, 2016, 11:40:56 AM »
I have a spare telephone but no socket. I want to connect it and would like it to have the same number as the phone in my room although it is in my server room.

The phone system here uses cat5 and everything is routed thru a comms cabinet in the server room.

Is it possible to run two phone off the same socket. Not splitting the socket but sharing much like a phone at home, one upstairs, one downstairs, they both share the same number and ring at the same time.

Everything I google deals with port doublers but I don't want that I want two ports that share the same wires. If that will work.

You should be able to punch another set of cat cables on the back and have an extension.

I think it will depend on wether the phones are smart and require a dedicated connection back to the PBX.
