Proxy issue
« on: October 05, 2011, 12:15:39 PM »
I recently changed the proxy over on our legacy network to proxy3 from proxy4 so staff could have youtube access.  I set the proxy with a logon script, so all I had to do was change the 4 to a 3.  Now when a user opens internet explorer it comes up with a 'diagnose connection' page and they have to hit refresh in order for the logon dialog box to appear.  Anyone any ideas what might be causing this?

if you change the setting in GPO instead of a script being run during logon it makes it allot easier just assign the proxy for staff gpo

There was a genuine reason I set it up this way, set the network up years ago but setting the proxy that way interfered with something else.  Was tearing my hair out for days trying to sort that one.

I remember an issue where you had to log in twice on the internet on the legacy system.  This was years ago and something to do with the number of servers you were going through.

when we used proxy 3 here it came up with diagnose connection problem and you had to hit refresh but it was due to our pupils not having the same password for both networks the passwords didn?t match and the first time it failed authentication but didn?t ask for a new password till you tried again. It was a nightmare but once the students had the same password on legacy and c2k it worked no problem with no login box appearing but that was because the legacy network I setup as the same domain as c2k so it authenticated without having to enter new details. just this year i have changed it for everyone to be using proxy 4 so that the password issue is no longer a problem

Bill, when you go to tools \ internet options \ security \ custom level then scroll all the way to the bottom under the User Authentication section what is the setting? Have you it set to ?Prompt for username and password?? Try fiddling about with them settings.

It may work, maybe not, it is worth a shot though, don?t forget to try adjusting the settings for local intranet, Trusted sites and restricted sites also.

Bill, also try this,
1) In IE go to tools \ Internet Options \ Advanced \
2) go to the 8th tick box from the bottom of the list ?Enable integrated Windows Authentication? and ensure that it is NOT ticked!
