how to you activate a port on the wall, i have a double port and one has a yellow sticker on it the other hasn't i have tried to install a printer but no joy, how do u activate this port?

Look at the number of the port and make a note of it.  Go to the comms cabinet and located the number of the port on the patch panel.  Connect a fly lead into this port and connect the other end to a spare port on the C2k switch.

The port should have a number near it something like 1-07 or C1/2-19.;



The first bit is the cabinet number in this case cabinet 1



If there is a / then you have more than 1 bank of sockets in the cab and this number refers to the socket bank number



the third number after the - say 19 refers to the port number in the bank.



So to active socket C1/2-19 I have to go to cabinet 1 bank 2 socket 19 and run a patch lead from the socket to the switch.



Note they didnt use the same notation in all cabs but as long as the is a seperator between the numbers you get the idea.

all patch panel leads are connected, there is no connectivity, what is the purpose of the yellow sticker>?

Dont know about the yellow sticker but I would plug something like a laptop in to the socket and see if it can see the network, otherwise the yellow sticker might mean fault. Is the light on the switch that the patch lead is going into turning green with the equipment connected? This would also indicate the switch knows there is an appliance plugged in.

Take the faceplate of the wall to see if it has even been terminated.

maybe its not wired with cat 5 cable...possibly phone system or something??

no if the equipment plugged in at the wall is turned on and the leads are all working the switch will have a green light, It maybe that you have a faulty wall socket. Is it part of a double socket? Maybe they  ran out of single socket plates and used a double but only wired one side. Remember that each datapoint had to be accompanied with a double electrical socket, so if you have a double datapoint there should be 4 power sockets beside it.

The yellow sticker indicates the points made live by the Northgate install team at the time of core installation.

Had a similar problem with a network point here.

Turned out the pins in the socket were bent slightly.

Might be worth checking
