thats another question i had for everyone was on creation of user accounts is it a script thats used to create all the accounts
i wouldnt like to sit and go through 770 accounts for pupils to be honest.

To get a list isn't a problem use the c2k web provisioniong and produce a report of all active pupils, it is just I havent got round to trying to bung these into a script yet.

We use the c2k usernames on the macs when generating accounts.

At the moment the art users login to the macs as Art1, Art2 etc however music has C2k usernames as about 2 years ago I created accounts for all pupils using C2k usernames on the legacy system approx 1000  :'( (PS. I got help)
 
Now that that is done I only have to add approx 120 new usernames per year ;D
 
I would like to bring Art into the C2k usernames but they store there fies locally and I do not have the storage space and at the moment to store the files on a server, and there is no money to buy a few new NAS for extra storage.

Thats what we do at the moment but if I got a gigabyte switch a few Terabytes storage and a New Mac OS X server I could have some fun.  ;D

have you found more that it is Art that get the best use out of the Macs or
do all departments prefer using them over windows. How did you find setting
the Mac network up with Mac server and OS X compared to that of XP and
Server 2003?

We cheated and paid scotsys to set the xserve up. Here artwould use them more that other departments but that is mainly due to the fact that there are 12 networked macs in the Art Study room.

At one stage it was talked about setting up a room of macs for Art / Music & Technology to use, have heard nothing bout it latley though.

we have just as much legacy as we do c2k, with 5 win 2003 servers and a xserve for an MIA class of 30 imacs.
Plus canons uniflow system for the photocopiers and thats not counting laptops.

Also we will be upgrading to Win 2008 in the next few months.

seems a few people are running this Moving Images course are art department was talking about it was just trying to get the funds together in order to get enough macs and other equipment, i am still hoping that we bring in the legacy network again

Try putting it forward as both Art and IT, All you have to do is buy graphic tablets so Arty people can draw (wacom Bamboo fun) these tablets are great and not to dear either plus you get Adobe elements with them.

Also boot camp them with XP and IT can use them, or if IT are feeling adventurous don't boot camp an iwork site licence for a K12 school is only ?155 + ?10 for media.

Lastly if you are an integrated school with a primary school you will have access to the ELF (education learning fund)

I had thought of brand new PC's for the school but then look at getting art Macs as both ART and MEDIA could use these, at
present media studies are already using emac's but i would like to get that changed if i could have to a room of Imac's.
but agian something like this would probably been done over a course of time never be done in one full sweap
