phpBB, easymod, c2k intranet
« on: April 06, 2006, 10:34:58 AM »
couldn't think of any other way to phrase the subject line.

i'm trying to install easymod so that I can add some extra options to my admin section of phpBB.  I uploaded it ok but when i try and install it says i dont have permissions on some of the files to write and if i cant work out what the ftp address is.  can anyone help me?

the other question i have is about phpBB itself.  for the moment i want to be able to authorise the pupils that are registering, but i dont want to have to find user, select, edit etc. on each individual person, is there any way around this?

eventually i also want to be able just let everyone register themselves but only with a valid school c2k email address, any ideas on that?

thanks

I'm not sure about the school intranet due to not being allowed near it, but I have some knowledge on phpBB Admin as I run a forum myself.

I think if you create a usergroup for the pupils and require them to apply for it, it could make things easier for you.  Once they register, give them no priveleges at all, ( or very limited ) and point them towards the usergroups section.  get them to apply for proper privileges and all you have to do is tick each user's name and add them to the group as needed.

The email problem I am not sure of, but if you go to the phpBB forums there is a wealth of information there and you should get some scripts there that might help.

Check this out. It has hacks for almost anything to do with phpbb

As for the permissions you have to log into the control panel for your intranet and set the permissions on the folders that your having problems with.

I don't think you're stupid, I think what you do is stupid.

thanks for the replies.

I am trying to get a knowledge base going so that pupils can help each other with access, do you think phpBB would be the best way to go about this or is there another open source solution that might be a bit better?

i think phpBB would be good in the long run if the school paid the extra and paid HP for external as well.  That way they could all help each other when at home but at the minute for the intranet I dont know
