Title: Dell T3400 workstations
Post by: Renegade on May 18, 2016, 10:50:54 AM
Hi.

This didn't fit nicely into one category so I'll stick it in here.

Solidworks.  We currently have SW 2011-12 available from the AppStore but this is being replaced by 2014 64bit only at the end of June.
We have a technology department with a suite of Dell Precision T3400 computers.  We've been put in the situation where we either had to buy new workstations or buy a 32 bit version of Solidworks.... or so we thought.
The Transformation team built these workstations to Windows 7 32 bit.  After doing some investigation I've found that the T3400's are actually 64 bit capable.
We've had 1 built with Win7 64bit off the books, and it's stable and running AutoCAD 64bit, but Capita seem very reluctant to rebuild the rest and in fact sent an engineer to rebuild it with 32bit this morning.

Does anyone else have T3400's with 64bit Win7 on them?  Does anyone realise that they are 64bit and we should be getting Capita to rebuild them?

Thanks.

We have some of these as well built to 32bit.  Was told there were not supported by Capita as they did not meet the spec for the new system.  Out of interest who rebuilt the machine as 64bit

Their list for Transformation says that it gets a 32bit build, which I find rather odd since it's a 64bit machine.  A simple Google of the processor will give the spec, and even the Dell website had it shipping with 64bit Windows if you bought from them.  The decision to handicap the workstation for a Capita build is ridiculous.

We were also told that they're no longer supported before we discovered the capability.  I'm not sure that they will backtrack to remove them from Option1 but if they were incorrectly catagorised at the time of Transformation then they should come out and rebuild with the proper 64bit OS.
It was rebuilt by one of the engineers. Didn't get a name sorry.

At the moment we've contacted both Capita and C2K to get a resolution, but we're yet to hear back from either.
