Hey y'all,
How goes it in the world of educational information technology?
-
I am just back from hols and rebuilding every mac on the network, I think about 150 - 170 machines. Got 20 laptops done since yesterday plus 28 imacs first week of July so only 102 odd machines to go before I can look at anything else.
How's life abusing your good self there Brian??

i'm having a relatively quiet summer, this is the first time since in about 5yrs + that i haven't made any major upgrades so concentrating on the littler jobs like server clean up etc, sorting whiteboard issues etc
-
Good to hear the schools are keeping y'all busy!
I'm not too bad thanks, not working for Capita any more, was let go at the end of the server installs, working in Causeway Coast and Glens Council now, which is good craic, oh, gotto run, coffee time!

Hi Brian - good to hear your not working for Satan anymore! I moved on as well - working for IT Security in the Health Service now - a role perfect for my permanent state of paranoia! Now its me doing the watching. :)

Yeah, got let go near the end of the ENNI contract, wasn't worried, was only doing it for the server/network/switch experience, they let go of a few other good engineers and kept on some numpties. Was given two weeks notice over the phone, was meant to be four in writing, wasn't worried again as I didn't want to leave Capita on bad terms, enjoyed workin' for them. Just more than three months after leaving them, got a letter from them telling me that I had been overpaid by a week and owed them money, after some time of me emailing them, getting nothing back, got letter from debt collection agency in England, no big deal, they can't do didly squat over here. They did drop the claim after some more communication and persuasion, but thought it was rather dodgy as I had a three month period where I could have taken them to an employers tribunal over the way I had received my notice, and they appeared to have waited until after that period before contacting me regarding the "overpaid wages".

That sounds typical. Can't believe they demanded money back of you though. Aren't they making enough fleecing C2K?

You'd think that, I'm just glad to be working here now, nice and close to home, saves a fair bit of wear and tear on the car!

I have to travel to Belfast these days. I take the train though so I get an extra 40 mins doze on the way to work and the choice of places to eat at lunch time is more than a little better than the school canteen!
I do miss walking around the school with a network cable in my hand, pretending look busy though..

Hi Brian good to hear that you got sorted. i am getting things ready for our amalgamation with the high school Capita come on site this Friday i'm sure that will be fun as there is also loads of electrical, plumbing and building work going on. Just found out that the server that hosts the wireless is down they are working to get it sorted. Other than that just the usual problems here.
