right got a machine here that i have been trying to get working for about 2 months now
it was working but mysteriously un-installed it self
its a stand-alone XP machine that is basically a member of the workgroup, and has the users home directory mapped in my computer
the server which the printer is installed on is rm connect 2.4
when i use the add printer wizard and add network printer i get the error ( the driver for your os is not instralled on the server,
when i use the wizard and install locale printer and select TCP/ip and type in the ip of the printer it installs ok
BUT when ever i print i just get an error message in the printer Q and the printer remains at ready as if its not getting the job
HELP ME PLEASE! ???
printer is a 4050 BTW

Update
this still isnt working, altho i had someone else look at it they said there there is a duplicate ip address and that the ip printing out on the test page might not be the right one.....
so brings me on to the next problem
how do i veiw the ip address on rm 2.4 server?
when i open printer properties it only gives the printer Address
-
I'm not near a 4050 at the moment but I've just tried this on a 4200 - might work with the 4050
press the green button on the front of the printer. Hopefully this will bring up the menus option. Scroll down to 'Information' click the green button. Scroll down to 'Print Configuration' press green button. This will print of the printer configuration pages and on them you will find its IP address.

yeah i can do that but i want to check the ip addy on the server soo see if its the same
any ideas?

If you were to turn the printer off then ping its address from the server you shouldn't get a reply. If you do then the address is being used elsewhere (I think)
-
You may need to look at DHCP Manager to see if the printer has been assigned an IP address in range. This may be the cause of the problem. I don't have RM here so I can't really be any more help than that.. Pinging the address is an excellent idea though

Do you have access to the RM Tech database for RM 2.4 Connect. These to Tech articles should help. Tec102700 deals with Ip address, while TEC55259 deals with installing a 4100 printer unto a 2.4 network, should work with a 4050 printer. From memory when we had 2.4 network we used 4m plus printer drivers for the 4050 printers Hope these help
