Title: Easy Link blank
Post by: Ray on June 15, 2006, 02:39:43 PM
Cannot seem to get easylink to work, made myself part of the EasyLinkX group, tried to logon through the legacy network, a non-C2k laptop, at hone, and when I try to access My Documents I just get an empty Internet Explorer window?

What am I doing wrong?

Hi Ray

Have you run the updates for Easylink.  I think from memory that you can obtain the addresses from the help section of easylink

Yep you need to make sure that your laptop is up-to-date with all security patches and updates.

I've had this same problem.  But had a look last night and can't see where to update Easylink.  Can you be REALLY REALLY specific (pretend you're trying to explain it to a teacher)  about where this is ?  I'm easily confused ! :?

Do you see the screen that says 'Click this icon to see your work' (or words to that effect)? If so there should be some red writing below it about having problems. Click it and you will see a list of problems and possible solutions.

yep, but none of those probs seemed related to the blank screen I get .  Is there an update link in one of those 'solutions'?

Try the first one

"When I open a Web Folder, Error Message Box 'Internet Explorer could not open <WEB-ADDRESS> as a Web Folder. Would you like to see its default view instead ?' is displayed"

As LOUD said this has cured that problem for me too.

Oh god, right, Ill try:

The big OLD black boxy thingey with the TV on it (a win 98se legacy station)

wont let me into MY C2k e-mails (can't access my documents folder through easylink).

I have switched on the C2k Internet (have logged onto easylink)

Connected to my e-mails (clicked the link for my home directory)

It creates a new internet with nothing on it (opens a new blank IE window).

The big OLD black boxy thing with the TV on it is actually new (Windows and IE are updated, web folders etc).

Have also tried with one of them new electric different typewriters, and it looks the same(have also tried with a non c2k Win XP (SP2) laptop, same thing).

I think C2k is broke, why don't you re-install the sims, think that might fix it, or it could be the projector. (not sure what is wrong).

You should be able to log in from a c2k laptop or local mode of a workstation no bother.

To test if it is actually working use the managed side of a workstation and goto

http://www.c2kni.net/

click on    learning services for school

click on    school access

choose your board and school from the pull down menus and click connect to school

enter school\username   where username is your c2k login name

and your password and click ok

click on the folder icon that says beside it Select this folder to view your home directory

After a couple of secs (depending on how busy things are you should be able to view your directory)

If this method doesnt work something is obviously wrong.

I've hit another problem with accessing my files & folders.

I was able to access them fine after installing the webfolders update and after installing Firefox and downloading the IE tab but now I keep getting this error message telling me my folder has been moved or deleted.  It doesn't matter whether I use Firefox or IE, I just get the same error message.  Any ideas ?

Just giving this a bump to see if anybody has any suggestions before holiday fever kicks in.  :)

If not, I'm gonna try uninstalling Firefox to see if that makes any diff.

Uninstalled Firefox and can now access my folders from home, so it appears to be a firefox prob.

I would be curious to know if you got the same problem using the portable version of firefox. (www.portableapps.com).

I have firefox and IE at home and never had a problem but I am starting to get into the portable firefox as you can carry it about on your usb stick and it means that your web browser, extensions and shortcuts are always there no matter what machine you are on.

One problem is I can easily spend hours with the stumble upon extension - when you install it you pick your favourite topics then when you click your stumble button on the toolbar it picks a site with that topic from the net. You get to see pages you would never have looked for but on topics you are interested in. If you really like the page give it a thumbs up, if you hate it a thumbs down and if you cant be bothered just click the stumble button and move on.
