Title: Blank Board Serializer!
Post by: Machead on July 29, 2009, 11:17:53 PM
Unlikely that anyone has a copy of this little utility, but you never know!
We have a white MacBook here that had it's logic board replaced last year.  It's being issued to a new teacher in Sept, so while I was wiping the HDD and reinstalling the system, I noticed the serial no. was missing from the system profile.  Apparently this often happens, the tech is meant to flash the machine's serial to new board, but forgets to do so.  So do any of you have a copy of Apple's 'Blank Board Serializer' that I could beg, borrow, steal or even buy?
Cheers.

MacHead your best bet is to bring it back to were you got it done as only ASP people have the software for this or just search the torrent sites.

Try http://thepiratebay.org (http://thepiratebay.org/) as i know they do the ASD disk from apple i downloaded it to do a thermal calibration on my G5 as it kept no responding every couple of hours.

I checked with the other tech here on friday as he had his logic board replaced a couple of months ago and he has no serial number assigned either.

Yep, ours was done by MacSys also.  I emailed them and they said if I bring it in to them they can do it in a few minutes.  I would like to have done it myself though.  No plans to in Belfast area in the near future, but if all else fails I suppose we'll bring it up there.  Though having said that, it's not exactly a 'life essential' to have the serial No. in the system profiler.

Well after numerous attempts I got a working copy of the utility in question.
It does only take a minute or two!  The machine boots up in what looks a lot like 'classic mode'.  There's a dialog box with a field to enter data, a proceed button, followed by another dialog box with the serial No. and a 'confirm' or 'back' button and thats it.  The copy I got originally came from someone (in the US I think) who got their laptop returned with the service disc still in the optical drive!  Bet the Tech's at that service centre got a bollicking over that one!

Do you still have the Serializer tool.  I had to recently replace my logic board in my MacBook Pro (Nvidia GPU) version and I would like to put the serial number on the new board.  Thanks for your time.
