Get the school to buy some homeplugs, then just feed the signal across the mains. You certainly wouldnt need the 200Mb ones (last I looked about ?99 for a pair of netgears), 85Mb would probably do ?70 a pair see http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=328784&CatId=2328 (http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=328784&CatId=2328)

Three things about using homeplugs, you need at least a pair to start off, they have to be plugged into the same ring main circuit for to see each other and as it is a seamless connection Northgate can't see them (I think).

Sorry I'm of no help to this thread....  but I'm laughing at the idea of the both of you meeting up at the entrance to Twinbrook & passing a network cable between the cars!  Very suspicious for anyone watching! hehe!

Maybe you could get out early to meet (school business), unfortunately in the present climate I doubt if you could claim expenses!!

where abouts are you waylander?

i really appreciate the offer casper but the only reason i was looking for the cable was so that on monday (when im off) at the staff training day i could have the wireless up and running in the staff room so teachers can do work (+ update laptops at teh same time ) as they dont have a clue how to plug a network cable in lol

we wouldnt even get thanks for the trip never mind expenses so i wouldnt bother running down or let you waste petrol :) as i can just order a box and wait on it coming in

Think you can order the cable and ends from PCworld business. I got a tester and crimper years ago from i think B&Q, it is at home somewhere. Haven't used the tester in a long time, just make them, have made a few and haven't had a problem yet.

Maplin also do a range of tools / cables

i would get them from maplins, Boucher road. Ive never had any problems with them and they usually just swap out anything that doesn't work/faulty.
Ive found in the past that ordering Rj45 heads online was easy but a good lot of them were very brittle.

If you can prove you have tried to buy a certain item from the listed companies and they cant supply you with it, then you are allowed to purchase elsewhere.  Two or three listed suppliers should be enough

Thats what I have been told anyways.

Used to have to work off the tender in my old place but now we can order from who we like, as long as its not too expensive then we have to get 3 quotes.
