Yep I'll be there.  There are two teams of teachers and 1 team of pupils going from my school.  I'm in with the teachers on this one.  I'm trying not to think about the pain and suffering I am going to endure since I can barely run to the toilet.

I'll be there too, doing the 6.5 mile leg (didn't go to the meeting so I got the short straw).  Hoping to do the Lisburn 10K too in June.

I have 8 staff including myself. Will probably have to draught in 2 students. Did it a few years ago, and they really enjoyed it, and not one of them complained that they were giving up their day off :)

Wow, good on you mate!  You must be fitter than the proverbial butchers dog! I'm struggling to run a mile without stopping never mind 24 (or whatever it is....)

Maybe you could give us a few hints or tips?

Here are some of my own:

Don't smoke while running, you may feel slightly out of breath afterwards.

Pretend that you opened a C2K workstation and broke the motherboard and a gaggle of Northgate engineers are running after you with screwdrivers and pink forms in their hands.  This will improve your running speed.

Try not to think about what you are doing, you will run faster and further with your mind elsewhere.  Funnily enough this works during school hours too....

The best tip would be trying to swap numbers with the favourite at the start line and his finish time will have your name beside it in all the official results.

Have you all been training for the marathon over the weekend. I did my last long run on Saturday(22 miles) and can't wait until May Day. If you give yourself enough time to prepare and train for it it is possible to enjoy the occasion. My serious training started in January and it is paying off now.

I'm only doing a leg of the relay this year. I've only every done one full marathon before - Belfast 1990. Maybe next year :)

What was your time like in 1990.  I am 37 and have been running for 2 years now. Used to play football before a bad back injury and after surgery and a long lay off I took up running to lose some weight and caught the bug.

Good time.  Do you do any running now or are you just doing the relay without any real training.  With that time in 1990 you must have been in good shape.

Any other sporting technicians out there.

Did alot of training for that one, but I was also playing alot of squash and indoor soccer. Unfortunately once I got married (13 years ago) that all went to pot :( I'm currently just running 5k a day on the tread mill in the gym over my lunch break - I know it's not real running but it's better than nothing. Hoping to get back to the road running this week.

I couldn't even run 5K on a tread mill yet.... :(

I have been working on running around Craigavon Lakes twice which is roughly 6 miles all together. If I can complete 2 laps, I will be ready for the Marathon (the relay, not the whole thing!).

I started off barely being able to walk around it and now I can run half way round without stopping so, while there is progress being made, I am still some way off - working hard at it though!

I used to play squash, go to the gym, play football etc too before I got married.  Strange......

I think the  moral of the story is, if you want to stay fit, don't get married.

I'm working on time on the treadmill at the minute. I have the following times

1.6k (1 mile) - 5 mins 28 seconds (fastest the treadmill will go)

5k - 18 mins 20 seconds - hope to be able to do a sub 18 mins time by the end of next week :)

All my training done now and I am really looking forward to Monday.  A bit nervous and my two sons have been off school with a bug(vomiting), so I hope I can avoid this or I will be very disappointed if it affects my run or means I can't do it after all the hard work.

Hope the rest of you are in good shape and run well on the day.

So is anyone sore? How did you do? We had a mix up at the first change over that cost us a half hour but other than that it went well.

I had a great day, finishing in 3hrs 11 min. which was much better than I had hoped for.  A lot of people in Ormeau Park as we were finishing walking on the course and had to dodge people, dogs and bikes which was annoying but I enjoyed the whole occasion and am so pleased to be back at work today walking up and down stairs all day.
