Has anybody experienced any probs with users trying to access their files from home ?
Few of our staff try to use it but of those who do only 2 actually gain access. I can't figure what the problem is. Any ideas ?

How far do they get? When they click 'Connect to School' do they appear to connect and then it shows nothing?
I've had a few that have reported problems but when asked what happens the answer is always 'I think..' , 'There might be...' I've recommended to all users that they make sure that IE is fully patched and updated, and for them to look at the possible solutions that C2k have posted in the easylink.

Yep that's about it. I'll try the IE updating etc, though I can't connect and mine has all patches and updates ......... I think ! :lol:

We have experienced similar problems with Easylink mainly not being able to access the My documents folder. I have two machines at home on Windows XP, both with exactly the same configuration and patches etc. One connects and I can get into My documents the other one connects to Easylink but will not access the My Documents folder.

Following the upgrade of the C2k server quite a few members of staff had difficulty getting back into the system via Easylink. Clearing the Cookies and Temporary Internet Files sorted most of these issues out. One machine refused to connect due to a rather nasty piece of Spyware. A current version of Microsofts Antispyware was on the machine and was up-to-date. Downloading Spybot Search & Destroy found a host of additional nasties and once these had been removed it was possible to connect with Easylink again.

No, this was on their home machines. Charging! now if someone can tell me how to extricate money from a staff member then this forum will be on to a real winner. :lol:

Raises an interesting question though. Why should we as technicians take responsibility for a machine that is the personal possession of a staff member ?

This is indeed an interesting question for debate, but this involves the Easylink, which is a C2k program isn't it?
Also, if there is a problem with the Easylink that a teacher cannot get onto their files that are stored in the C2k servers it could be impeeding on their work and therefore, would the problem not then come under our jurisdiction, as long as the problem isn't a fault with their own personal machine, it would only be something that we would have to fix or C2k would have to fix if it involved a problem with their profile or maybe a problem with the servers. Even then if it was a program fault or there wasn't a program present on their computers that would be needed for Easylink to function properly, we could then let them know whats needed and then let them go and take care of it for themselves, or if one would be feeling generous, get them to bring the offending machine in and update it for them. I did it once for one of the teachers and got a big tub of sweets for my bother! 8)

iv experience some problems with this also.... one which c2k helpdesk solved for me was that a windows web folders update had to be downloaded and installed for internet explorer 6 and then enabled... this was also the solution to our windows 98 machines on our legacy network.
tho at the min i still cant get the students accessing it... i think its bcos they havent got the previleges for it from c2k themselfs yet... staff are all working fine at the min

Make sure your users are members of the EasylinkX group. You will not find this by going to the username in the management console and checking out it's group properties.
Run the management console as normal, Click on the word resources rather than on the + sign.
In the Resources window that opens click on Manage Groups.
Double click on EasylinkX.
From here on you can add and remove users from the EasylinkX group.
See info sheet A29. External access to files and folders using Easylink.
